The Writings of Thomas R. Drummond

Thomas R. Drummond, a resident of Arizona, has lived a life shaped by service, family, and a deep reverence for history. A retired pioneer with Nextel Communications, he also devoted much of his professional career to aerospace, specializing in exotic metals that supported advanced technologies. Alongside his wife, Paula, he has cherished the privilege of raising a daughter and a son, who remain his proudest legacy.

Mr. Drummond’s family story is deeply interwoven with America’s own. He is a compatriot in the Sons of the American Revolution, descended from Lt. William Copeland, a minuteman who answered the call at Concord. His extended family includes such figures as Dr. Joseph Warren, who gave his life at the Battle of Bunker Hill, and cousins Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and Samuel Adams—champions of independence. Yet his ancestry also reflects history’s complexity, including kinship with General William Howe, who commanded British forces against the colonies.

His heritage reaches further back still. As a board member of the Arizona Mayflower Society, Mr. Drummond honors his descent from thirty Mayflower passengers, including ten direct great-grandparents who risked the perilous voyage of 1620. Beyond America’s shores, his lineage traces to John Seymour, father of Queen Jane Seymour, consort of Henry VIII and mother of Edward VI.

Paula L. Drummond brings her own distinguished background to their shared work. She holds a Master of Business Administration from Pepperdine University and built a successful career in management at several major corporations. Together, Thomas and Paula co-authored Buried Treasures: The Real-Life Amazing Story of My Remarkable Family, combining historical research with personal storytelling.

Out of this heritage—and gratitude for those who came before—Thomas Drummond has written his most recent work, Birth of America, Born on the 4th of July. More than a book, it is a tribute to the enduring ideals of courage, faith, and civic virtue that shaped the nation and remain essential today.
